Apps like Duolingo are great for casual practice, but they don't include live classes or an internationally-recognized certificate — so you can't prove your level for a job, university or visa. Open English does have live sessions, but they're mass group classes with rotating teachers and no official exam. Do I need to take a placement test?
It depends on your situation. Complete beginners (never studied English, or less than 20 hours of study) skip the test entirely and start at Basic English 01. New students with prior English take our 5-minute Quick Check, which places you at one of 7 standard entry courses and takes you straight to enrollment — cutoffs are calibrated so a random guess can't place you above your real level. Existing Langcom students skip both — go to your level page (Basic / Intermediate / Advanced / Expert) and register your next course directly. If you want a more granular placement (e.g. Basic 04 instead of Basic 01), take our full LEPT placement test (30-45 min: Listening, Reading, Use of English and AI-powered Speaking).
When do classes start?
Group Classes: once a month on fixed schedules. Private Classes: any day, any hour, 24/7.
What if I can't attend a class?
In Private Classes you can reschedule. In Group Classes, sessions are recorded and you can reinforce with interactive platform exercises.
Is the international exam really free?
Yes. When you complete your program from Basic 01 (or Juniors 01) and take the exam prep, Langcom covers the cost of your international certification. Minimum academic terms apply.
